A letter to 2022 from my friend Melinda:

“2022

Dearest….

You were a tough, intense, life-altering hell of a ride around the sun. I couldn’t tell if you lasted 12 months or 12 years. I am a thousand wishes older, ten billion heartbeats truer & more tried, and a couple of hundred mistakes humbler since the day we met…all great things have transpired though.

Thank you for stretching the limits of the possible and what I thought would have been impossible, for teaching me new real dialects of strength & lessons in utter vulnerability, for testing me in all the ways I never thought I had the gut to endure and truly reinvent myself through.

Thank you – for every up & major down that made you so beautifully complete, for all the fires you lit in me & the tides that followed, for every opportunity found at the heart of every single crisis, for really opening my eyes to rid myself of the things and people that were not lifting me higher.

I am truly all of the things and people I’ve loved, lost and now found, all of the places I’ve made my way through, all of the truths that I’ve become. I am the shadows and light that I’ve been too slow to accept. I am the wonder that I’ve missed, the Now pushed to Later, the Later I’m still to become.

Maybe the words for you, new page of me, are TRUST and FAITH -trust your intuition – it will NEVER fail, betray or abandon you; trust your crazy heart – it feels the future years ahead of what the mind thinks it sees; trust the wisdom of your own body, the corners of your own soul, and that voice that tells you when something is not right or kind, trust all of the stories written on your skin long before you grew the faith and the bones to embody them.

Trust – because it is the only state of being that can effectively disarm your fear, always. Trust that no matter the detours, absurdities, setbacks and imperfections, there is a higher truth and mystery of your existence that is pulling you like a magnet, exactly where you need to go…so keep FAITH in that things work themselves out in time.
